Meat Puppets Reunite for a New Album
Billboard reports that the Kirkwood brothers, Curt and Cris, are set to release Rise to Your Knees, their first Meat Puppets album together since 1995's No Joke. Anodyne Records will release the comeback record on June 26th and support the tour that follows it.Having overrcome the trials of a near-fatal heroin overdose, an 18-month prison sentence, and a gunshot wound, Cris had a great deal of personal drama to wade through in order to reunite with Curt.
"Cris shouldn't be alive," Curt Kirkwood tells Billboard. "There's a dude who just died here in Austin with a wife and two little kids. They were just dabbling (in heroin) and he winds up dead on the couch. Cris has completely held hands with demons for 10 years and he's still swinging. He's not a total nut. He's a really sensitive guy. He's just been through hell."
The band debuted some of the new material at Austin's South by Southwest festival.
