James Iha a No-Go for Smashing Pumpkins Reunion

The Smashing Pumpkins will be reunited for a new album and tour this summer—but which Smashing Pumpkins, exactly? Head Pumpkin Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin are on board, but founding lead guitarist James Iha has officially dashed any lingering hopes that the reunion will be complete, telling Rolling Stone that he has nothing to do with it and is focusing his efforts this summer on a solo album.
"I haven't spoken to Billy [Corgan] in years," he added.
In a lengthy online post in 2004, Corgan blamed Iha for breaking up the band; in the same note, he called bassist D'Arcy Wretzky a "mean-spirited drug addict"—so Pumpkins fans shouldn't hold their breath over her involvement, either.
The newly reconfigured Pumpkins will be releasing their new album, Zeitgeist, on July 7th.
