Nick Drake's Estate Issues New Material
The estate of Nick Drake will put out previously unreleased tracks by the hugely influential singer-songwriter, who died tragically young in 1974 after releasing just three albums. The collection of tracks, called Family Tree, will feature lo-fi recordings made on reel-to-reel tape and cassette prior to the release of Drake's official debut, Five Leaves Left.On Family Tree, fans will be able to hear Drake performing his own songs, including the previously unreleased "They're Leaving Me Behind," "Blossom," and "Come Into The Garden," as well as covers by artists who influenced him, including Bob Dylan, Dave Van Ronk, and Jackson C. Frank. The album also features two songs written and performed by Drake's mother Molly, and a family performance of a Mozart piece, featuring a young Nick on clarinet.
Family Tree will be released June 19th on Tsunami LG/Fontana. This year will also see a reissue of the Fruit Tree Box Set, which features all three of Drake's studio albums, plus a new book and DVD documentary, A Skin Too Few.
