Members of the Alarm, the Stray Cats, the Cult, and the English Beat climbed the 1,576 steps of the Empire State Building this morning for the Empire State Building Rocks event on behalf of the Love Hope Strength Foundation. The organization, launched by Mike Peters from the Alarm and music industry vet James Chippendale, raises money and awareness for finding a cure to cancer.

"We saw a gap in non-profits for cancer awareness and wanted to address it. We feel like young people aren't aware that they can be afflicted and we wanted to say that through the language of music," Chippendale told Billboard. "Nothing resonates with people as much as music. We're not really a black-tie kind of organization."

When they reached the top, Peters, Slim Jim Phantom of the Stray Cats, Billy Duffy of the Cult, and the English Beat's Dave Wakeling recorded a new version of the Alarm's "Strength," which will be available on iTunes tonight. They also performed the Cult's "Rain," the Stray Cats' "Rock This Town," and English Beat's "Sooner or Later."
