Tribute Albums Planned For Madonna, Smashing Pumpkins

On May 14, modern rock will take on the Smashing Pumpkins. MySpace Records has announced that Panic! at the Disco , the Bravery, and others will contribute covers for a tribute record to the recently reunited alt-rock band. The music will first be available as a free stream on the contributing band's MySpace pages, followed by a free CD included with the July issue of Spin magazine. There is no commercial release date slated as yet.

In other tribute record news, Through the Wilderness: A Tribute to Madonna will feature Material Girl covers by Devendra Banhart, Lavender Diamond, and other members of the freak-folk community. All proceeds of the record will go towards the Raising Malawi charity, an organization seeking to fight AIDS in Africa.
