Ian Curtis Biopic Debuts at Cannes
Photographer and novice director, Anton Corbijn, premiered his first film, Control, at Cannes this week. The movie, a biopic of Ian Curtis, the deceased front man of Joy Division, received rave reviews as it played to a rapturous audience. The actor portraying Curtis is Sam Riley, a 27-year-old undiscovered actor, who is also the frontman for UK indie band 10,000 Things. Corbjin said about the casting choice, "A lot of bands I met, including Joy Division, were kind of under dressed—a thin coat on, smoking and shivering in the cold. When I met Sam, it was also in the winter and he was totally the same."
A US release date has not yet been set.
