Rapper cites poverty, depression as cause for her random meltdown

Lady Sovereign Has Onstage Breakdown in New York

Lady Sovereign might not be fully recovered from the "exhaustion" that forced her to cancel a number of shows last month. Last Friday night, according to numerous eyewitness reports, the diminutive British rapper lost her cool while performing a late-night mini-concert in Brooklyn, New York. Sov told the audience that she was only there for the money because she was broke and was "gonna be homeless in two weeks." "I've just come out of depression," she told the crowd. "This is so painful to do." Apparently, it was too painful, because the self-professed "biggest midget in the game" left the stage after just two songs, failing to complete what was only supposed to be a three-song set.

Lady Sovereign is currently on tour as the opening act for Gwen Stefani. According to a concert review on Newsday.com, she was back in action on Sunday night, even posing for photos with fans during a set from Stefani's other troubled warm-up act, Akon.
