The post-punk trio finally become "songwriters"

    Liars Announce New Album Details

It's time to expect the unexpected again from Brooklyn's perennially out-there post-punk trio Liars. The band seems to be on a prolific streak right now, as they have just announced details on their fourth studio album. The upcoming album was recorded right after the release of Drum's Not Dead, the band's third album, which came out in early 2006 and was received with varying levels of enthusiasm.

But, perhaps the band are turning a new sonic leaf?

Liars' frontman Angus Andrew divulges, "I’d never felt like a songwriter 'til this album. If you told me last year Liars would release a record like this, I would have laughed. If you said I’d be playing guitar solos, I’d have called you a liar. We never know what we’re making ‘til it’s made... this time I’m a bit shocked."

How exactly this differs from their normal brand of psuedo-experimental, guitar-clanging, trashcan-banging indie rock remains to be heard. The self-titled fourth album will be released August 28 on Mute Records.

    This is the tracklisting:

    01 Plaster Casts of Everything
    02 Houseclouds
    03 Leather Prowler
    04 Sailing to Byzantium
    05 What Would They Know
    06 Cycle Time
    07 Freak Out
    08 Pure Unevil
    09 Clear Island
10 The Dumb in the Rain
    11 Protection
