Lily Allen Performs TV Duet with Debbie Harry
The UK's most outspoken pop-star Lily Allen has found someone she can't pick a fight with. It just so happens to be the original singer of her newest cover Blondie's Debbie Harry. Allen has covered everyone from The Kooks to Kaiser Chiefs (as heard on Mark Ronson's Version), but her London-ed up version of Blondie's #1 hit "Heart of Glass" has won out as her signature take over tune.In a PR double-whammy, the two singers united this morning on NBC's Today Show to perform the song together to an NYC crowd. Today Show correspondant Merideth Viera introduced the backing band which featured original Blondie members Chris Stein and Clem Burke. The band is "reuniting" to join the "True Colors" tour (a benefit for the Human Rights Campaign) in support of the reissue of their 1977 album Eat to the Beat. The album will be joined by a DVD of all the videos from the disc.
You can watch the duo duet at the Today Show website.
In Lily news, she's just axed several dates from her US tour. Allen wrote on her blog apologizing to fans and explaining the tour cut short. "I have been on tour with this album for a year now, I have fulfilled every commitment up to this point. I am tired, but more than that I don't think I have been giving my best performances recently...I'd like to apologise to anyone who has bought tickets, but you can get your money back, if you take 'em back to the place you bought them from."
