Courtney Love Protests Dr Martens Campaign

It seems that the irrelevant shoe-brand (even in this '90s rehashing craze) Dr. Martens is seeking a reinvention at the expense of deceased rock stars. Ad agency Saatchi & Saatchi revealed a new campaign earlier in the week displaying Joe Strummer, Joey Ramone, Sid Vicious and Kurt Cobain all depicted as angels wearing the signature steel-toed Dr. Martens boots. But representatives of the musicians are coming forth claiming that the ad agency never requested permission or sought the rights to use their images.

A representative for Courtney Love, Cobain's widow, issued a release saying, "Courtney had no idea this was taking place and would never have approved such a use. She thinks it's outrageous that a company is allowed to commercially gain from such a despicable use of her husband's picture."

As a result, Dr. Martens has apologized for the advertising campaign and issued a statement as well saying, "Dr. Martens is very sorry for any offense that has been caused by the publication of images showing dead rock icons wearing Dr Martens boots...As a consequence, Dr Martens has terminated its relationship with the responsible agency."
