East Bay punk trio welcomes you to Springfield... not "Paradise"
Green Day Re-Works "Simpsons" Theme
It's been a long way to the top for the punk rock trio Green Day. They've sold millions albums to date, toured the world, headlined 2005's Live8 in Germany and won a bundle of Grammys. But this year, Green Day see their highest achievement yet: covering The Simpsons theme song for the TV series' first feature film.Though there is no word on what the re-working of the classic tune sounds like, there is some news on how it will be sold. According to Billboard.com, the Green Day version of Danny Elfman's familiar theme music will appear in three different incarnations. Warner Bros. (the band's label) will be releasing the song as a single; the soundtrack will be digitally scored and released by Fox Music; but, trumping them all is Extreme Music's release of the soundtrack in 25,000 pink doughnut packages in homage to Homer's favorite food group.
This limited edition packaging will be available in nationwide chains, such as WalMart and Barnes & Noble. If you miss out on the sprinkle-coated soundtrack, a standard jewel cased version of the soundtrack will also be available.
All three versions will be released on July 24. The film opens nationwide on July 27.
