The B-52s Working on New Record

Faded sign on the side of the road says, 15 years since the "Love Shack"

Nearly 15 years since their last album of new material, the B-52s are recording in Athens, GA for their big comeback record. Singer Fred Schneider spoke to the Associated Press yesterday, revealing that the new wave group had always intended on recording together again but waited for the right time.

"After the Cosmic Thing and Good Stuff tours (in 1989 and 1992 respectively), we were a little burned out," Schneider said from his Long Island, NY home. "We just had our ins and outs and things going on. It took a while for things to fall back into place."

The anticipated record is not expected until next year, but Schneider admits that the record has "more electronica on it. It's up-tempo and a bit sexed-up. It's sexier than ever." The B-52s will tour the US and Europe this summer with a full itinerary to follow the untitled album's release. "It's great to perform when we have new material," Schneider added. "That makes all the difference."
