Live Earth Cancels Istanbul Concert, Adds New York and Hamburg Acts
The organizers for the July 7 Live Earth event have cancelled the festival's Istanbul edition. The local Turkish press blames the cancellation on the government's failure to provide financial support for the concert. While no official press release was issued, Turkey's upcoming general election on July 22 may explain the local politicians' lack of support. No tickets were sold, so there is no real financial loss, and no major international headliners were scheduled for the Istanbul concert, although several Turkish performers are now out of a gig.In other Live Earth news, organizers have added Enrique Iglesias and Shakira to the Hamburg concert, while Keith Urban and Taking Back Sunday join the lineup at the U.S. show at Giants Stadium outside New York.
