Etta James Hospitalized

Billboard.com reports that Etta James was hospitalized last night when her abdominal surgery resulted in some complications. The 69-year-old blues icon was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after the mid-June surgery. Her manager, Lupe De Leon, wrote in an email, "If it had been left solely up to her, she would have checked herself out of the hospital and started the tour regardless of her delicate health. However, her doctor advised that were she to do so, it would put her at very great risk."

James hopes to return to touring later in the summer as the co-headliner with B.B. King and Al Green. In the meantime, Chaka Khan is filling in as the support act.
