New Order In Dispute Over Supposed Split

It seems that bassist Peter Hook was presumptuous in announcing New Order's end. Despite the release of a new album, Waiting for the Siren's Call, in 2005 and touring in support of it, Hook had announced that the band was calling it quits earlier this year. Members Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris are inclined to disagree, and insist that they will continue on with the band without Hook.

In a July 27 posting, Hook responded to the infighting on his MySpace page (apparently, aging rockers do use the internet). "This group has SPLIT UP! You are no more New Order than I am!" Hook wrote. "You may have two-thirds but don't assume you have the right to do anything New Order-y cos you don't. I've still got a third! But am open to negotiation."

A bizarre love triangle indeed. The post continues, "Whenever you contact me it's through the management. You all knew what was happening re: the split! In February! Using Cannes [film festival featuring the Anton Corbijn-directed Joy Division biopic] and Mojo [UK music magazine] as some excuse to at last get your own back is wrong. See you in court!"
