Pete Doherty Arrested Again, Released

At this point, we would be doing Pete Doherty a favor by putting him in jail. The frontman of Babyshambles was arrested yet again—we've lost count—for drug possession yesterday, but instead of going through the motions of pretending to threaten the troubled rocker with a prison sentence, the British courts dropped the charges early this morning. Prosecutor Anjulika Vatish said that "the court has no jurisdiction to deal with this matter any more." So, what happened? Apparently, the police made the mistake of not getting Doherty in front of a court within 24 hours of his arrest. D'oh!

The Metropolitan Police issued a statement saying, "Senior officers from Tower Hamlets are currently reviewing processes to establish why Mr. Doherty was unable to be brought before the court within the 24-hour time frame. It would be inappropriate to go into any further detail until the MPS is absolutely clear about the exact sequence of events."
