Queensryche Releases Covers Album
On November 13, Queensryche will release an album of cover songs titled Take Cover on the Rhino Entertainment label. The long-lasting Seattle metal band has picked some of their favorite songs for the homage treatment like Pink Floyd's "Welcome to the Machine," The Police's "Synchronicity II," and "Innuendo" by Queen among others."We'll never top the originals; they're classics for a reason," said singer Geoff Tate. "We were more focused on finding different approaches that took the songs in unexpected directions." And while the band's selections focused heavily on rock, there are some left-field choices like "Heaven On Their Minds" from the Jesus Christ Superstar play and "Odissea," an opera selection originally by Carlo Marrale and Cheope. Like, whoa.
"I really like this song because there is a lot for a singer to sink his teeth into," Tate told Billboard. "Plus I got a chance to sing in Italian, which was interesting, considering I don't speak a word of it."
These are the confirmed tracks listed in no particular order:
U2 - "Sunday Bloody Sunday"
Queen - "Innuendo"
Pink Floyd - "Welcome to the Machine"
Buffalo Springfield - "For What It's Worth"
Peter Gabriel - "Red Rain"
"Heaven on Their Minds" from Jesus Christ Superstar
Carlo Marrale and Cheope - "Odissea"
The Police - "Synchronicity II"
The O'Jays - "For Love of Money"
