Luciano Pavarotti Dies
Luciano Pavarotti died early this morning, surrendering to his year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. The 71-year-old opera singer was the genre's most popular representative as both a soloist and as one member of the popular 3 Tenors collaboration.Pavarotti also experienced some mainstream attention when he collaborated with U2 on the song "Miss Sarajevo" and with Celine Dion's "I Hate You Then I Love You." The grand voice remained an optimist all throughout his life, and was once quoted as saying, "I am and have been a lucky man. I will be an optimist to the death."
