Libertines Release Definitive Best Of
Mon, 01 Oct 2007 16:01:39
You know you've hit that halcyon point of notoriety/prestige when people use your band in the phrase: "they're the best band since [insert your band name here]." One of the most recent bands to get that honor is the late, great Libertines. Though the songwriting duo of Pete Doherty and Carl Barat have gone on to start their own bands (
Babyshambles and Dirty Pretty Things respectively), both have fallen short of achieving the chemistry, devotion and success of The Libertines.Perhaps in an attempt to make those reunion rumors come true, Rough Trade, the band's former label, is set to release a definitive Libertines best-of album called Time For Heroes. The label has selected 13 tracks pulled from their debut Up the Bracket, sophomore (and supposed final) album The Libertines, as well as a handful of B-sides. No doubt die-hard Libertines fans and Pete Doherty-alikes will quibble about the definitive-ness of the tracklist, but their wit, charm and talent are apparent in all 13 songs. The album will be released on December 4 in the US, preceded by an October 24 release in the UK.
Here is the tracklisting:
