Fall Out Boy, Maroon 5 Among Rock For Darfur Artists
Artists as varied as Megadeth and Maroon 5 have signed on for the second annual Rock For Darfur initiative, a concentrated effort of 37 worldwide concerts meant to raise money for Sudan's humanitarian crisis. Taking place November 10, in locales from Glasgow to Birmingham, AL, the MySpace-sponsored event also include concerts from Coheed and Cambria, The Decemberists, Puddle of Mudd, and Fall Out Boy."As I watch the fire around my Southern California home, I know that the devastation of losing treasured personal property, a house, or even a whole city, cannot compare to the evil atrocities that the children and parents of Darfur have had to endure under the ongoing genocide," Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine said in a press statement.
Oxfam America (a Chad/Darfur organization that provides basic supplies to those in need) and the Save Darfur Coalition (a unified front to raise awareness about the area's ongoing genocide) will both receive a portion of the proceeds from each show. To give you an idea of how much that might be, last year's Rock For Darfur raised nearly $50,000 for relief efforts according to MySpace.
