Robert Goulet Dies While Awaiting Lung Transplant

Robert Goulet has died of pulmonary fibrosis complications. The star of stage and screen was diagnosed with the rare disease just last month and was awaiting a lung transplant at the time of his death in a Los Angeles hospital on Tuesday. He was 73.

"His incredible voice will live on in his music," said longtime friend Wayne Newton in a statement, "And as Bob so brilliantly sang, 'There will be another song for him and he will sing it,' for God now has another singing angel by his side."

Goulet was born in Massachusetts but got his start acting and singing in Canada, where he hosted his own TV show (General Electric's Showtime) during the '50s. He won a Best New Artist Grammy soon after, and hit the singles chart in 1964 with the song "My Love Forgive Me." Among Goulet's other notable roles were such Broadway appearances as "Moon Over Buffalo," "The Happy Time" and his breakthrough "Camelot," as well as the films "Gay Purree," "Underground" and "The Naked Gun 2½."
