Moby Offers Songs to Startup Filmmakers

Remember when Moby's music was everywhere? Like in every film trailer, commercial and clothing store imaginable? Those were the (Play) days—a period that's long gone, sadly. That is, until now. Just in time for the DJ/producer/tea peddler's first record in three years (Last Night, due out this March through Mute), Moby has decided to invade our lives once again. Well, on a DIY level at least. According to a mission statement on mobygratis.com, the bald man has decided to share a number of songs from Play, 18 and other unreleased sessions with "independent and non-profit filmmakers, film students, and anyone in need of free music for their independent, non-profit film, video, or short."

Ah, but what if your non-profit masterpiece blows up on YouTube and the distro deals start flowing? No problem! Moby says, "If you want to use it in a commercial film or short then you can apply for an easy license, with any money that's generated being given to the Humane Society."
