Organizers announced next year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees today, including Madonna, John Mellencamp, Leonard Cohen, The Ventures and The Dave Clark Five. While you've probably heard of the first three, the latter are responsible for potent examples of instrumental rock ("Hawaii Five-O," "Walk Don't Run," "Perfidia") and the British Invasion period ("Glad All Over," "Over and Over," "Catch Us if You Can"), respectively.
Mellencamp was one of the first artists to respond to the announcement, saying in a statement, "I'm very honored and pleased to be recognized this way, especially among people whom I greatly admire."
The 2008 ceremony will take place on March 10 at New York's Waldorf Astoria hotel. Other honorees include Little Walter in the sideman category and producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff in the non-performer category, now named after the late Atlantic Records co-founder Ahmet Ertegun.
