Former Rogue Wave Member Dies During Apartment Fire
Fri, 28 Dec 2007 08:11:16
Evan Farrell—a former multi-instrumentalist for Rogue Wave and occasional member of the popular Bloomington, IN, band the Japonize Elephants—died of apparent smoke inhalation complications at an apartment fire on Sunday. He was 33.
Farrell recently relocated from Bloomington to Oakland, CA, in hopes of working on some new Elephants material. (Their last studio album came out in 1999.) The band was one of the first signings to Secretly Canadian, a label that now includes such prominent indie artists as Antony and the Johnsons, Jens Lekman and Damien Jurado.
As for his role in Rogue Wave, Farrell joined in 2005 and played on the group's final Sub Pop LP, Descended Like Vultures. He quit earlier this year, before the band started its Brushfire debut, Asleep at Heaven's Gate.
Farrell is survived by two sons. A Paypal-based memorial found can be found here.
