M.I.A. and 9 Others Make Final Shortlist Cut
The seventh annual Shortlist Music Prize has announced its final round of nominees, a nearly surprise-free lot that includes Arcade Fire, M.I.A., Feist, and Wilco. While leading dubstep star Burial is certainly a dark horse candidate among critics (Metacritic ranked his Untrue LP as 2007's album of the year), Working For a Nuclear Free City came out of nowhere to score their spot in the final 10. Apparently that's what happens when your admitted influences include Devo and The Grateful Dead, not to mention The Chemical Brothers and Bill Evans. This year's winner will be announced in February, as chosen by such "Listmakers" as Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody and The Killers drummer Ronnie Vannucci.
