New 'Guitar Hero' Game to Feature Aerosmith

Activision has announced the details behind the next Guitar Hero game. Due out in stores this summer, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith will feature around 30 of the band's songs as well as selections from past opening bands.

"The premise is that it's going to cover the 30-plus years of the band, from high school all the way through the rock superstardom of today," Kai Huang, head of Activision's RedOctane unit—the franchise's developer—told Reuters in an interview. "It's just a completely new way to interact with this music and with Aerosmith, and we think there's more opportunity to do that in the future."

The Guitar Hero series has brought in more than $1 billion since its initial release in late 2005. Huang said he does not know if the Aerosmith version of the game will come bundled with a special controller yet. He does have the band's blessing, though. Apparently they "recognize that it can deliver their music in an innovative and new way. It's a new distribution platform for them."
