Brooklyn Rapper Nabs Notorious B.I.G. Role

A talent search involving more than 100 rappers has finally ended in the casting of Jamal Woolard as Notorious B.I.G. Other key roles in Notorious—Biggie Smalls' forthcoming biopic—have also been decided, including Sean "Diddy" Combs (Derek Luke of Catch a Fire), Tupac Shakur (Anthony Mackie of Brother to Brother), and Biggie's mother, Voletta Wallace (Angela Bassett of Akeelah and the Bee). Production begins this month according to Billboard, with a tentative release date of January 2009 set at this point.

Notorious B.I.G. died of gunshot wounds in 1997 while the rapper was in Los Angeles. His murder was never solved.
