NIN Have Million Dollar Week
Trent Reznor, the driving force behind Nine Inch Nails , announced the total amount in first week sales of Ghosts I-IV, $1,619,420. The March 2nd album, self-released via www.nin.com, generated 781,917 downloads as of yesterday. The instrumental release was available in five formats including: downloading a quarter of the album for free, the entire digital album for $5, the physical album for $10, the "limited deluxe edition" for $75 and the "Ultra-Deluxe Limited Edition" (which included deluxe packaging, a Trent Reznor Autograph and a vinyl) for $300. The Ultra-Deluxe Limited Edition of 2,500 units sold out within a day.
Radiohead had a similar idea when releasing In Rainbows, but their final sales amounts have not been released. And they say no one buys records anymore.
