Gnarls Barkley suddenly released their second record (The Odd Couple, Downtown/Atlantic) on iTunes yesterday, three weeks before its intended release date. Brick-and-mortar stores will have CD copies before week's end as well. An online leak of the album was not cited as the reason for the unexpected change.

"They felt the timing was right to just go for it," explained a post on Gnarls Barkley's Web site, www.gnarlsbarkley.com. "With the shifting seasons, furtive romantic entanglements and fierce college basketball rivalries, the latter half of March can be confusing. People need to be soothed and inspired now."

Expect a major Odd Couple push over the next couple months, including an April 12 Saturday Night Live appearance and (according to Michael Pontecorvo, Downtown's head of marketing and sales) "something globally with MySpace that has never been done before."

Some touring will also happen, but Cee-Lo Green has already told Billboard.com he's not too into the idea of an extensive trek.

"Believe it or not, I still can't afford to take my entire family on the road with me," he said. "[But] it's an entirely different thing to walk out onstage to the love and embrace of a crowd that's singing along with something you could have very possibly been alone in. And it's about that too. It makes me able to complain a whole lot less."
