Sean Levert Dies While Serving Jail Term
Sean LeVert, the son of O'Jays singer Eddie LeVert and one-third of the R&B trio LeVert, died of unknown causes late Sunday night. LeVert was serving a prison sentence in a Cuyahoga County jail for failing to pay child support when he suddenly collapsed. The singer passed away less than an hour later at Cleveland's Lutheran Hospital. He was 39.Sean LeVert, his brother Gerald, and their childhood friend Marc Gordon formed LeVert in the '80s. The trio's hits included "Baby I'm Ready," "(Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop) Goes My Mind," and "Casanova," which was nominated for a best R&B performance by a duo or group with vocal Grammy in 1988. A 40-year-old Gerald died in 2006 from an accidental mix of prescription and over-the-counter drugs. However, Sean LeVert had hoped to revive the trio after finding a suitable replacement for Gerald.
