Show "Geek Love" By Disrupting Screenings

    Fan Boys Protest Superhero Movie

If you learn anything from this item, it's that you don't mess with fanboys, because they will rise up, even if they don't spark a true riot or revolution! In a show of protest, support and solidarity for Kyle Newman's unreleased film Fanboys, a shadowy group of Star Wars fans dubbed "The 501st" showed up at screenings of Superhero Movie at AMC theaters in New York and Los Angeles last week. The goal of the Fanboy's supporters was to detract people from attending the competing Superhero Movie. Only a handful of protestors showed up and they didn't cause much of a distraction, either. However, chat rooms and blogs lit up at the news.

Why are these two comedies about geeks locked in such battle? Superhero Movie is distributed by the Weinsten Co. and the makers of Fanboys have been grappling with the Weinstein Co. over which version of the movie to release. Fanboys, which tells the story of Star Wars super fans who break into director George Lucas's Skywalker Ranch in order to see The Phantom Menace wrapped production over two years ago and features comedy A-listers like Seth Rogen and Kristen Bell in the cast, yet it remains on the shelf.

Is it us or does something here not compute? Release the damn movie! Give the nerds and fanboys something new to obsess over and to quote ad nauseum.
