Natalie Portman Ascending to Great Heights

Natalie Portman continues her streak of making smart, unpredictable choices for her film roles. The actress, a chameleon who can easily shift from Sci-fi (Padme Amidala, mother to Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith) to serious (as 16th century tempress Anne Boleyn in the recent The Other Boleyn Girl) is now attached to another period piece, Ecosse Film's upcoming film version of Wuthering Heights, the time-tested 1847 novel by Emily Bronte about burning passion, deep love and soul-crushing loss, all the necessary ingredients for a sweeping big screen weeper, so be sure and stock up on tissues before you head out to the multiplex to take in this flick! The novel has been translated to the silver screen several times over the years, with one of the most famous versions released in 1939 and featuring Sir Laurence Olivier.

Portman, who is Israeli-born and will appear in the forthcoming war-drama dubbed Brothers with rumored former love, Jake Gyllenhaal, would of course play the meaty, romantic lead Catherine Earnshaw, in a role that drips with Oscar potential. No word yet on who would play Heathcliff, Catherine's beloved.
