BMG Hires New Chairman/Chief Executive Officer

    Fri, 18 Apr 2008 12:21:04

    Clive Davis is out

The BMG label group announced some key executive level changes this week, beginning with moving Clive Davis from his spot as the head of operations to a chief creative officer position. Barry Weiss, the 49-year-old former CEO/president of the Zomba Label Group, replaced Davis and will now oversee RCA Records, Jive, J Records, LaFace, Arista, Volcano, Verity, GospoCentric and Fo Yo Soul.

Weiss is best known for his work with Jive, which he helped grow from a small imprint level to the blockbuster home of such artists as Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys, Justin Timberlake, *N Sync, Chris Brown and T-Pain. As for Davis, he's widely recognized as one of the most legendary music execs ever, largely thanks to his role in launching the careers of Whitney Houston, Janis Joplin, Bruce Springsteen and Alicia Keys. He also helped reboot the catalogs of Rod Stewart and Santana, among others.
