Live Review: Lady Antebellum - The Key Club, Los Angeles
In early 2006, three individuals came together to create the new country sensation, Lady Antebellum. While Lady A fans patiently awaited the release of their debut album, the band quickly became the talk of the town. They have been nominated for an ACM award for “Top New Group” and toured with award-winning country artist, Martina McBride. Their self-titled debut album released on April 15, 2008, which prompted their CD-release performance at the Key Club in Hollywood, CA.Country fans gathered from all across Southern California at the Key Club less than 48-hours after the release of Lady Antebellum’s debut album. As the clocked ticked closer to their scheduled appearance, both anticipation and the crowd grew in waves. Lady A began the show with up-beat cuts, such as “Love’s lookin’ Good on You” and “Slow Down Sister.” These quickly prompted the fans to join in, provoking a mass sing-a-long. The fact that these country fans learned the lyrics to these songs day of release is a testament to their devotion to the genre. The tempo slowed a bit as the sultry alto, Hillary Scott, took center stage with her performance of “Home is Where the Heart is” and “Can’t Take my Eyes Off You”. The much anticipated performance of their first single, "Love Don’t Live Here” was ushered in with a roar of the crowd. Fans sang and cheered as Charles Kelley flexed his spirited and soulful vocals. There was friendly banter among the trio between songs, and Hillary Scott decided that “Woman Scorned” was the perfect way to counter Charles Kelley’s “bitter, get back at cha’ song”. Dave Haywood, who rounds out this trio with his multi-instrumental talents and harmonizing vocals, expressed his admiration of the crowd’s participation as he mentioned that this was the first time anyone sang along at a performance.
Country came to town when Lady A took stage in the heart of Los Angeles. The buzz surrounding the band was affirmed, and as expected, country fans have embraced their talents. Their performance is one for the books, as they will soon be filling large arenas overflowing with Lady A fans. It's just another reason they were named "Top New Group."
