We learn about Reno's hospitality, Flying J truck stops and love for Hanes undies from these hard rock road warriors
On The Road With: Rev Theory
The hard rock quintet Rev Theory, formerly Revelation Theory, have been pushing the boundaries of nu grunge with their heavily distorted riffs and emotionally charged vocals since the band formed in 1997. After gaining a relatively sizeable fan base in their hometown of North Andover, the rockers packed up their gear a moved to New York to seriously pursue their music careers. After years at the grindstone, EMI picked up Rev Theory for their debut release, The Truth is Currency, which yielded the thunderous single "Slowburn" and earned the group a spot on tour with big name rockers like Fall Out Boy, Evanescence and Papa Roach.Since their 2005 debut, Rev Theory has moved from EMI to Interscope and started work on their sophomore album, Light It Up. The record's title track is already gaining traction in the world of rock and was selected as an official theme song of WrestleMania XXIV. With a solid single behind them, they're gearing up to head back on tour and they were kind of enough to sit down with ARTISTdirect and answer a few questions about life on the road before they do.
What records have you been cranking lately on the tour bus, backstage or before you perform, and what's so great about them?
Before the shows we have been listening to the new Avenged Sevenfold Album, as well as Pantera’s Cowboys from Hell. They get us pretty amped before we hit the stage.
Rich has been listening to the Eddie Vedder Into the Wild soundtrack to chill out to…
Julien and Matt have been listening to the new Radiohead album as well, some great stuff on there.
What's your favorite piece of stage clothing, and where did you get it?
Julien’s fav piece of stage clothing is a black Religion zip up shirt that he bought in Milan on tour with Evanescence.
Rich's favorite stage accessory is his Travis Walker Jewelry.
Dave likes his cheap-ass Hanes wife beater that he bought at target.
Rikki loves Miller light on stage that you can buy from any local liquor store.
Matty’s favorite piece of clothing are his new boots he got while we were shooting our new video for "Hell Yeah".
What's the best place to eat on the road?
Chipotle.
Do you write music on the road?
We always try to write. Right now we are taking a little break after writing over the past year non stop. But, yeah, usually we like to mess around on the acoustics.
What's the best way to kill time in a boring spot?
Sleep.
What's the most inspirational truck stop?
Flying J, where you can outfit yourself from head to toe for $25.
What city has the best and most responsive crowds?
Anywhere in the South and the Midwest, especially Kansas City and Dallas.
Which venue has the cleanest facilities?
Any House of Blues.
More importantly who provides the best rider?
The Grand Sierra Casino in Reno Nevada, SIK.
What do you miss most when you're out on tour?
Friends and Fam.
What's the first thing you do when you get home from tour?
Sleep.
