Doc explores director's exile
The documentary, directed by Marina Zenovich, explores the events that led to Polanski's flight from the US over 30 years ago. The acclaimed director, who was married to slain pregnant actress Sharon Tate, fled the US and sought refuge in his native Europe after he was accused of unlawful sexual assault of a minor in 1977. He has not set foot in the States since, due to the threat of incarvertion that looms over his head should he ever return. Despite his legal issues, Polanski has continued to direct films that achieve a degree of success, most notably 2002's The Pianist, for which he picked up an Academy Award for Best Director.
The pic will take a non-judgmental look at Polanski's legal troubles. It opens theatrically on July 11, followed by a DVD roll out in late Fall.
