Radio 1 Taps Madonna as Festival Headliner

BBC Radio 1 has announced the lineup for its "Big Weekend" festival, which hits more than four stages in Mote Park next weekend, May 10-11. Madonna will headline the event on Saturday, with other high profile sets coming from Usher, Robyn, Fatboy Slim, Editors and more. As for Sunday, it'll feature the Kooks, Hot Chip, the Raconteurs, Nelly, Goldfrapp and more. Gates open at noon both days, with a curfew happening around 10PM. More than 30,000 people are expected to attend throughout the weekend. (Limited free tickets were released to Radio 1 listeners.)

"The event continues to grow in stature year-on-year and this year promises to be the best yet with four stages and a cross-section of the best performing artists from the newest UK acts right through to some of the biggest performers in the world," Jason Carter, Radio 1's head of live music & events, said in a statement. "With over 30,000 free tickets being made available for listeners, if you are a successful applicant then you'll truly be one of the lucky ones! But for those that can't get to the event, there will be access via BBC TV, Red button, Radio 1 and online."
