Without warning, too
NIN Offer New Album For Free
Nine Inch Nails went one step further than Radiohead today by posting The Slip—a new 10-track album—for free on http://theslip.nin.com/. Available in several DRM-free formats, the record will be released on CD and vinyl in July, the further details of which will be revealed in the coming weeks."Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years," Reznor wrote alongside the download. "This one's on me."
Speaking to Billboard.com, Reznor's manager, Jim Guerinot, added, "[Trent's] been in a prolific phase and we didn't want 'business' to get in the way of getting the art in the hands of the fans. We've looked at the climate and the many advantages of being able to do whatever we want without bureaucracy."
As for how the release came about, Guerinot said, "[Trent] let me know there was some new music coming and the next thing I knew there was a full-length record done … It's very exciting to be finishing mixing on Thursday, mastering Friday, finishing artwork on Saturday and having the world hear it [Monday morning]!"
Fans apparently thought the news was exciting as well—NIN's site was barely moving at 9:30 this morning.
Your move, Yorke-y.
