    Remy Ma Gets Eight Years

A New York City judge sentenced Remy Ma to an eight-year prison sentence today for shooting a woman outside a Manhattan club last July. Calling the 26-year-old rapper "a young woman whose anger is out of control," State Supreme Court Justice Rena Uviller acknowledged Ma's rough childhood but insisted that her victim, Makeda Barnes Joseph, would never be the same after she survived two .45-caliber bullets to the abdomen.

"I feel so bad for all the physical and mental pain you've gone through," Ma, real name Remy Smith, said to Joseph in court. "This has taken a toll on us and both our families. I would never wish you harm and I pray the best for all of us."

The pair originally got in a fight over $2,000 that Joseph allegedly stole from Ma's purse outside a Meatpacking District nightclub. Ma's lawyer, Ivan Fisher, claimed the gun went off accidentally after a brief struggle, but couldn't deny the plaintiff's claim that Ma fled the scene without alerting police or asking for medical help.

Ma and her fiancé, fellow rapper Papoose, still have plans to wed despite a recent incident where Papoose showed up to prison with an alleged handcuff key.
