Pirate pic finds home at DreamWorks
Blackbeard's Delight
Ahoy, maties! Hide your booty, as DreamWorks is setting sail on a film about notorious English pirate Blackbeard, who sailed the Caribbean Sea during the Golden Age of piracy in the early 18th century. Given the massive success of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, it's smart of DreamWorks to walk the plank and get in on the pirate action. The screenplay will be written by David Franzoni, who also penned historically steeped films such as Amistad and Gladiator. The film will be produced by both Barry Josephson and pirate enthusiast Pat Croce, who, in addition to being a Philadelphia sports personality who once co-owned the city's 76ers basketball team, owns a pirate museum in Florida and has written a book on the subject.
No further details about the film or possible castings have been revealed yet.
