    Sydney Pollack Passes Away

Director Sydney Pollack passed away on Monday, May 26. Pollack, who won an Academy Award in 1985 for Best Director for Out of Africa, lost his battle with cancer at the age of 73. He died at his California home.

Pollack enjoyed a storied career as a director. In addition to his Oscar win, he was also nominated for directing both Tootsie and They Shoot Horses, Don't They?. He also garnered an Emmy for directing The Game. In recent years, Pollack moved from directing to executive producing, with one of his most recent producer gigs being Leatherheads, the football flick starring George Clooney.

In an ironic twist, Pollack passed away a few hours after the premiere of Recount, the HBO film about the controversial 2000 Presidential election on which he served as executive producer. He had planned to direct the film but had to bow out because of health issues.

    Our condolences to his family.
