Actor appeals tax convictions
Wesley Snipes Still Free
Wesley Snipes has avoided jail—for now. The actor has been plagued by tax evasion charges claiming that he failed to file federal income tax returns from 1998 forward. He was acquitted of charges that he conspired to fraud the government, but was convicted last month of three misdemeanor counts for failing to file taxes. The 45-year-old star of New Jack City and Blade remains free on bail as he appeals these charges.Snipes, who saw his movie career skyrocket before leveling off and then fading to mostly direct-to-DVD roles, was granted bail, since the judge ruled that the actor doesn't pose a flight risk nor is he a community threat. The actor's lawyers plan to aggressively appeal the case in hopes of overturning his February conviction.
