The King's "Colonel" Gets His Own Movie

Elvis Presley's longtime manager, the late Tom Parker, was known as "The Colonel" withing the King's inner circle. Parker is often portrayed as a questionable figure, especially since he negotiated a deal that allotted him half of Elvis' earnings and control over merchandise, resulting in him earning more than his boss. The relationship between the King and the Colonel is soapy stuff, so it's no wonder that producers David Pemut and Steve Binder have secured the film rights to The Colonel: The Extraordinary Story of Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis Presley, a book penned by Alanna Nash in 2003.

The producer duo will develop the tome into a feature film called The Colonel, which will explore Parker's shadowy background—he claimed to be born in West Virginia when he was really born in the Netherlands—and other exploits, including his possible involvement in the death of a female friend. Interestingly enough, Elvis is not a new subject for Binder, who actually served as producer on Elvis' famed '68 "Comeback Special."
