Donnie Darko Sequel Moving Forward
Production of S. Darko, the sequel to 2001's cult hit Donnie Darko, is moving full speed ahead.Actresses Elizabeth Berkley, who survived Showgirls and currently hosts the Bravo reality show Step It Up and Dance, and relative newcomer Briana Evigan have just joined the cast. Previously confirmed cast members include Daveigh Chase, who is reprising her original role as Samantha Darko, the sister of Donnie, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, who will not be returning. Neither will his real-life sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal, who played Donnie's sister Elizabeth in the original.
Ed Westwick of TV's Gossip Girl has also confirmed a role.
The film fast forwards seven years, with the action focusing on Samantha. Samantha is now the product of a broken home and leaves town with Evigan's character when they, like Donnie, start to have visions. Production is already underway in Utah, with a 2009 release date being eyed.
