Sharon Stone Apologizes
After a week-long silence following her controversial remarks about the earthquake that devastated parts of China being linked to karmic retribution regarding the Chinese government's mistreatment of Tibetans, Sharon Stone has officially issued an apology over her verbal gaffe. The 50-year-old actress claimed she is "deeply sorry" about her comments, saying in a statement, "Due to my inappropriate words and acts during the interview, I feel deeply sorry and sad about hurting Chinese people. I am willing to take part in the relief work of China's earthquake, and wholly devote myself to helping affected Chinese people." Stone issued the statement after Chinese movie theaters threatened to ban her films for life.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang acknowledged Stone's apology, saying "We hope that as an actress she should contribute to our peoples' mutual trust, understanding and friendship." Looks like Stone and the Chinese nation have buried the hatchet.
