Jon Cryer and James Spader to Wear "Shorts"

Jon Cryer and James Spader will always hold a place in the moviegoing public's hearts, thanks to their roles as Duckie and Stef in Pretty in Pink. Ah, the memories. Cryer and Spader have joined forces again and will star in Shorts, a family adventure also featuring Leslie Mann and William H. Macy.

Robert Rodriguez will write, direct, and produce the picture about people living in the fictitious town of Black Falls and working at Black Box Unlimited Worldwide Industries, a company that has developed a popular communication gadget a la the Blackberry or the Sidekick. A little boy, portrayed by Jimmy Bennett, also uncovers a rock that grants the wishes of all who hold it, which creates problems for those surrounding him. Cryer and Mann will play a married couple. Bennett stars as their son, with Spader playing Mr. Black.

Shorts will be filmed in Austin, Texas and no release date has been set. No word whether or not Cryer and Spader's Pretty in Pink co-star, teen queen Molly Ringwald, can be coaxed into taking a role.
