Mae Whitman replaces Brittany Murphy
Disney Names New Voice of Tinker Bell
In 2006, baby-voiced, doe-eyed actress Brittany Murphy was announced as the voice of Disney's beloved Tinker Bell character for a series of direct-to-DVD videos. After many production stops and starts, Disney has announced that someone new will voice the Magic Kingdom's favorite fairy: Mae Whitman. While Disney has not given any reason (and probably won't) for Murphy's dismissal, newshounds speculate that the actress' waning career, purported drug use, and recent marriage to a man with a shady past facilitated the severing of ties. Whitman has appeared on Grey's Anatomy and done voicework for The Jungle Book 2. She has also appeared in movies including Independence Day and When a Man Loves a Woman.
The first direct-to-DVD Tink film will hit stores this fall.
