Ryan Gosling Is a "Dallas Player"
Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling has taken a plum role in Dallas Players Club, a film based on the real life story of Texas electrician Ron Woodruff, a rough and tumble man diagnosed with AIDS who refused to lay down and die from the disease, which was considered unsurvivable at the time. Universal will release the picture.Woodruff's story is compelling because he was given only six months to live following his tragic initial diagnosis. Facing a lack of treatments, he created his own, fashioning an underground ring to smuggle alternative drugs and make them available to those suffering from AIDS. Despite his valiant efforts, Woodruff died in 1992, eight years after his diagnosis, defying the odds that doctors had given him.
The film has been in development since 2002 and a script rewrite is currently underway. No release or production dates are have been scheduled at this time.
