Keira Knightley to Tackle Eliza Doolittle
Oscar-nominted British actress Keira Knightley is in talks to star in the Columbia Pictures update of the classic film My Fair Lady. Knightley would portray tough-talking cockney girl Eliza Doolittle, who is slowly but surely made over into a lady by one Henry Higgins.Based on George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, rumor has it that this version of the time-tested ugly ducking turned beautiful swan story will focus on some of the emotional pitfalls that Eliza faces as she undergoes her radical transformation. The studio did not comment on casting or story arcs for the film.
The character of Eliza Doolittle has been brought to life by songbird Julie Andrews and Audrey Hepburn in the past.
