My Morning Jacket has confirmed a special "evening with" concert at Madison Square Garden on New Year's Eve. Tickets for the show—the band's biggest to date—go on sale June 27. If it's anything like their New Year's gig at San Francisco in 2006, expect a slew of covers. (The group played Prince's "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man," George Michael's "Careless Whisper" and Lionel Richie's "All Night Long" as the Fillmore eased into 2007.)
"The greatest thing about live music is that it's something you can't replicate," frontman Jim James told Billboard in a recent cover story. "It's something very communal, and I think society is lacking that. People are so alienated and trapped in their little cubicles with their computers and texting devices. When you go to a big concert and you're in a room with a bunch of other humans, I think that's really healthy."
My Morning Jacket's latest LP, Evil Urges, came out this week and is expected to be its biggest chart debut yet.
